Kaufman and Broad Home Corporation NetworkWhen
I joined Kaufman and Broad, I discovered that each of the company's 18 divisions
had installed relatively unique network infrastructures that were severely
restricting the company’s use of technology. I immediately recognized an
opportunity to significantly improve the company’s operations efficiency and
help maximize return on its IT investment. This positioned the company to integrate disparate technologies by expanding network capacity more than 10 fold while improving systems availability and reliability from 60% to better than 99.9%. KBNet 2000 High Level ArchitectureI was the primary architect of the frame relay LAN / WAN network for Kaufman and Broad Home Corporation. This Cisco based TCP/IP network supports 180+ WAN nodes and more than 3,000 Windows 95/98/NT LAN nodes. The network integrates more than 90 NT and Novell servers, three clustered Exchange e-mail servers, three AS/400's, two Intranet servers (one Microsoft IIS / NT, one Linux), and four Microsoft SQL servers. The network provides Internet access to LAN and RAS connected clients. The WAN is a meshed network managed / monitored by HP OpenView and CiscoWorks. Disaster recovery is integral to the network design.
